How Blade Quests work

Nearly every Rare Blade has a personal quest, and completing it is the only way to finish that Blade's Affinity Chart. Quests unlock through a mix of story progress and the Blade's own chart — here's the pattern.

1Raise Trust → Key Affinity

Most quests appear once the Blade's Key Affinity reaches a set level (2–5). Trust unlocks those tiers: fight with the Blade, give it pouch items it likes, send it on Merc Missions, and view its Heart-to-Hearts.

2Mind the story gate

Every quest also has an earliest chapter, from Chapter 3 (Electra) to Chapter 10 (KOS-MOS). Several need Pyra or Mythra in the party, which rules out Chapters 8–9 — for many quests Chapter 7 is the practical window.

3Watch for special triggers

Some quests hide behind extras: a specific Heart-to-Heart, a field-skill node on the Affinity Chart, a time of day, resting at a certain inn, party members, or even a Merc Mission. Each guide page lists these under “Before you start.”

4Quests finish the chart

It runs both ways: completing the Blade Quest is itself the requirement for the final Affinity Chart nodes. You can't fully master a Blade without doing its quest — that's why they're worth hunting down.

Field-tested tips

1Tip

Raise Trust to open Key Affinity tiers: reach max Affinity in battle, give the Blade pouch items it likes, complete quests and Merc Missions, and view Heart-to-Hearts (dialogue choices change how much Trust is gained). Completing a Blade Quest itself awards 200 Trust in almost every case.

2Tip

Check both the Key Affinity level AND specific chart nodes before hunting for a quest — several quests stay hidden until a particular field-skill node is unlocked (e.g. Flames of Justice needs Godfrey's 'Justice Blizzard' Lv. 3), not just the Key Affinity tier.

3Tip

Merc Missions do double duty: they raise Trust in bulk, and at least one quest (Zenobia's 'A Real Challenge') only appears after sending the Blade on a specific Merc Mission ('We Need To Talk!'). Dispatch idle Blades constantly.

4Tip

For time-of-day-gated quests (Tranquility: 7:00-19:00; Lost Kingdom: 16:00-18:59), change the clock by resting at an inn or bench before skip-traveling to the quest giver's location.

5Tip

Keep the featured Blade in the active party and bring field skills: quest steps frequently include field-skill checks (e.g. Shiny New Power needs Earth Mastery and Keen Eye; Flames of Justice has 'Soul' node checks; Powered-Up Poppi needs Lv. 5 Forestry and Lv. 3 Ancient Wisdom), and Heart-to-Heart/inn prerequisites often require specific party members.

Blades without a Blade Quest

Wondering why a Blade isn't listed above? These Blades have no dedicated Blade Quest.

Pyra

Special/Legendary story Blade (Rex's Aegis); obtained via story progression, no Blade Quest.

Mythra

Special/Legendary story Blade (Rex's Aegis, from Chapter 3); no Blade Quest — though her Key Affinity 5 is required alongside Kora's for 'Girl Power-Off'.

Pneuma

Story-only true form of the Aegis — first manifests at the end of Chapter 9 and is playable in Chapter 10; no Blade Quest.

Nia (Blade form)

Special story Blade unlocked in Chapter 7; no Blade Quest.

Dromarch

Special/Legendary story Blade (Nia's Blade); no Blade Quest.

Roc

Special story Blade (Vandham's, then Rex's from Chapter 4); no Blade Quest.

Special/Legendary story Blade (Mòrag's); no Blade Quest.

Aegaeon

Special story Blade (Niall's; his Core Crystal passes to Mòrag in Chapter 8); no Blade Quest.

Pandoria

Special/Legendary story Blade (Zeke's); no Blade Quest.

Poppi α

Artificial story Blade built by Tora; no Blade Quest.

Poppi QT

Artificial story Blade (story progression, Chapter 4); no Blade Quest — only the third form, Poppi QTπ, is tied to a Blade Quest ('Powered-Up Poppi').

New Game Plus Blade (Torna member, random Core Crystal pull, Ver. 1.3.0+); no Blade Quest.

Patroka

New Game Plus Blade (Torna member, random pull); no Blade Quest.
