How to get Vess: NOT a random pull: Vess is awakened from Vess's Core Crystal, the guaranteed reward for completing her Blade Quest 'Tranquility'. Uniquely, you do the quest BEFORE owning the Blade — she is the only Blade not playable during her own Blade Quest.

How the quest unlocks
NPC trigger, no affinity chart involved: talk to Vess, who is out shopping at Torigoth Market, during the day (quest time window 7:00-19:00) after Chapter 4 has started. Xeno Series Wiki adds that Nia and Tora (its body text also says Pyra) must be in the party.

Walkthrough

  1. Talk to Vess at Torigoth Market during the day (7:00-19:00) after starting Chapter 4 — she asks for ingredients that have grown scarce in Gormott.
  2. Gather 5 Salty Soil, 8 Gromrice and 5 Ruby Mangosteen from Gormott collection points and hand them to Vess at the market (daytime only).
  3. Visit Vess's house at Tretl Windmill Plaza; talk to Dward at Saets Lumber Co., pick up the Gormotti Firewood there, and deliver it to Vess — you're invited to dinner and meet her elderly Driver, Mabon.
  4. Fetch the treats: get 3 Bitter Choclit in Fonsa Myma (Uraya), and separately develop Argentum, clear the Merc Mission 'Long-Awaited Work', then buy a Fruity Rice Ball in Argentum.
  5. Give the Bitter Choclit and a Fruity Rice Ball to Mabon (his secret vice — Vess disapproves), give a Fruity Rice Ball to Vess, then report back to Mabon, who remembers a pair of golden bracers he and Vess buried in his youth.
  6. Find both bracers: one in the Fief of Forgetfulness (Mor Ardain), one near the Ruins of Fountain Park (Uraya); report to Mabon.
  7. Deliver one bracer to Noelle in Fonsa Myma (Uraya) and one to Antis in Alba Cavanich (Mor Ardain) — Mabon's grown children; report to Mabon.
  8. Find Vess in Tretl Windmill Plaza for the finale: Mabon passes away peacefully in his chair and Vess returns to her Core Crystal — which is then given to you as the reward. Awaken it to obtain Vess.

Good to know

  • Vess (and the hand-in) is daytime-only, 7:00-19:00 — skip time at an inn or campsite if she's not at the market.
  • The Fruity Rice Ball is the hidden wait: it's gated behind developing Argentum's merc level and clearing the Merc Mission 'Long-Awaited Work' — start that mission early so it doesn't stall the quest.
  • You don't have Vess during any of this — 'Trust' and quest rewards apply once she's awakened; her exclusive Dumpling Pro field skill (cooked at Mabon's old kitchen) only opens up after the quest.
