How to get Poppibuster: Expansion Pass DLC only: reward for completing the DLC Blade Quest "Shiny New Power" (added in version 1.4.0, "New Rare Blade Pack"). Not a Core Crystal pull. Once obtained he is set to Rex but can be engaged by ANY Driver at any time without spending an Overdrive Protocol.

How the quest unlocks
Install the Expansion Pass "New Rare Blade Pack" (version 1.4.0+), then collect the "Shiny New Power" Key Item from the Expansion Pass menu — the quest only appears after the key item is collected. With Tora, Nia and Mòrag in the party and Chapter 5 started, go to Tora's House in Gormott and talk to Tatazo and Soosoo. (Xeno Series Wiki's data-mined prerequisites list Poppi α in the party as well — the in-game key item text reads 'Req. Poppi ＆ Nia ＆ Mòrag, Chapter 5' — practically auto-satisfied since Tora always has a Poppi.)

Walkthrough

  1. Collect the "Shiny New Power" key item from the Expansion Pass menu, then with Tora, Nia and Mòrag in the party (Chapter 5+) talk to Tatazo and Soosoo at Tora's House in Torigoth, Gormott.
  2. Gather Blade-special data, wave 1: use "Beam Barrage" (Lv 3 Special of a girl-type Ether Cannon Common Blade) and "Assault Rush" (Lv 2 Special of a boy-type Knuckle Claws Common Blade) in battle.
  3. Wave 2: use "Dual Fang" (Lv 2 Special, doggy/animal-type Twin Rings Common Blade), "Axe Throw" (Lv 3 Special, boy-type Greataxe Common Blade) and "Aerial Shield" (Lv 1 Special, girl-type Shield Hammer Common Blade).
  4. Wave 3: use "Flash Bomb" (Lv 1 Special, girl-type Bitball Common Blade), "Beam Halberd" (Lv 2 Special, giant-type Megalance Common Blade) and "Multi-Raid" (Lv 3 Special, boy-type Chroma Katana Common Blade).
  5. Go to Bulge Harbor in the Old Factory area of Mor Ardain to meet Soosoo.
  6. Dig up the item hidden beneath the Saffronia tree at Gwenith Paddies, Uraya — requires Earth Mastery Lv 1 and Keen Eye Lv 1 — to obtain the Not-safe-for-work Folio.
  7. Report back to Soosoo at Bulge Harbor — Poppibuster is born and joins the party here (per Xeno Series Wiki's data-mined objectives).
  8. Defeat the Maxos Arachno (Lv 33 quest-exclusive enemy, water element) at the Jelidorend Highlands, Mor Ardain — Poppibuster must be in the party for this fight.
  9. Report back to Soosoo at Bulge Harbor to wrap up the quest.

Good to know

  • The confusing part is the Special data-collection: each of the 8 Specials must come from a COMMON Blade of the exact body type, gender and weapon listed (e.g. "girl-type Ether Cannon", "doggy-type Twin Rings"), and the Special must be at the listed level slot (Lv 1/2/3). If you habitually release Common Blades you may need to pull new ones from cheap Core Crystals and raise their affinity to unlock Lv 2/3 Specials.
  • The quest will not appear at Tora's House until you manually collect the "Shiny New Power" key item from the Expansion Pass menu — installing the DLC alone is not enough.
  • The Gwenith Paddies dig needs Earth Mastery 1 + Keen Eye 1; the item is (comically) a Not-safe-for-work Folio, and the Maxos Arachno boss afterward is only Lv 33, so this quest is very doable right at Chapter 5.
