How to get Herald: Guaranteed via a special crystal (no pull RNG): awaken the Sealed Core Crystal, obtained by offering a total of 100 of any mix of nine poison-themed collectibles (Poison Flash, Black Pomegranate, Acid Tomato, Lazy Crayfish, Beelze Mosquito, Blood Walnut, Sore Worm, Pound Viper, Dark Sprout) at the Altar of Sealing, hidden behind a cracked wall in the Theospiti Temple Ruins in Theosoir, Kingdom of Tantal. Herald was sealed there after destroying the temple when she lost control of her power.

How the quest unlocks
Received from King Eulogimenos at the Royal Audience Hall in Theoscaldia Palace, Tantal, after: Chapter 8 has started; the Heart-to-Heart "Atonement" (Theospiti Temple Ruins) has been viewed — Atonement is also Herald's Key Affinity Lv 2 node; Herald's Key Affinity level 5 is unlocked (Lv 3/4/5 nodes = use her Specials 11, 12, and 20 times); and — per Xeno Series Wiki — Nia, Tora, Mòrag, Zeke, and Herald are in the party.

  • Heart-to-Heart "Atonement" viewed (Theospiti Temple Ruins, Theosoir)
  • Herald Key Affinity Lv 5 (43 total Special uses across the Lv 3/4/5 nodes)
  • Party must include Nia, Tora, Mòrag, Zeke, and Herald (Xeno Series Wiki)
  • Merc mission "Herald Search" mid-quest: 3 Blades with Strength 35+, 2 Bitball wielders, 2 Ether Cannon wielders; 20 minutes (cut to 5 with Info Collector, Expeditionist, and Fleet of Foot field skills)

Walkthrough

  1. Accept the quest from Eulogimenos in the Royal Audience Hall, Theoscaldia Palace, Tantal.
  2. Defeat the 2 Herridot Laias (Lv 55) at the Amphoret Pillar in Tantal, then report to Eulogimenos.
  3. Hear Queen Raqura at Fonsa Myma Port in Uraya, defeat the 2 Herridot Laias (Lv 57) in the Windpipe Deeps, then report back to Raqura.
  4. Head to near Xataris Spring in Temperantia and defeat the Laia swarm — 20 in total: 19 Herridot Laias (Lv 57) plus the King Laia (Lv 60, Electric), which must be killed to progress; a cutscene follows where Herald unleashes her sealed power, goes berserk, and flees.
  5. Dispatch a merc squad on the Uraya merc mission "Herald Search" (20 minutes; needs 3 Blades Str 35+, 2 Bitball, 2 Ether Cannon; reduced to 5 minutes with Info Collector/Expeditionist/Fleet of Foot).
  6. Head to the Bone Road in Spirit Crucible Elpys.
  7. Stop Herald Unbound — Lv 61 Blade boss with ~921,885 HP who can guard attacks from any side; below 80% HP she adds The Heavens Open (all-party Blowdown), and below 50% she enrages (+30% Ether, counters with 10% ether damage, halves ether damage taken) and adds Final Retribution.

Good to know

  • Fandom's objective list understates the Xataris Spring battle as ~3 enemies — the data-mined Xeno Series Wiki count is 20 (19 Herridot Laias + the mandatory King Laia). Bring sustain for a long brawl against Lv 57-60 Electric fliers.
  • Herald Unbound guards from every side and her attacks hit the whole party with ether damage; her enrage halves ether damage taken, so physical attackers finish the fight faster.
  • The real grind is before the quest: 100 offering items for the Sealed Core Crystal and 43 Special uses for Key Affinity 5 — keep Herald fielded on an aggressive Driver from the moment you awaken her.
